Arizona has 12,216,961 acres of BLM lands and 11,262,527 acres of National Forests. The last wilderness areas designated in Arizona were in 1990: Arrastra Mountain, Aubrey Peak, Baboquivari Peak, Big Horn Mountain, Cabeza Prieta.

Tumacacori Highlands
- Summary:
- Legislation introduced on August 1, 2007 to permanently protect more than 130 square miles of Sonoran Desert (some 84,000 acres), the largest roadless parcel on national forest lands in the state. The bill would ensure that the Tumacacori Highlands— a biological hotspot that is home to one of the highest concentrations of rare plants and animals in the country—would forever stay as it is today. The legislation would protect the towering peaks of the Pajarita, Atascosa and Tumacacori mountains, and the deep recesses of Peck Canyon and Hell's Gate, which shelter precious water in the Santa Cruz River watershed. The Highlands are popular with hikers, horseback riders, birders and hunters, providing critical habitat for game species such as white-tail deer and javelina, and containing numerous culturally significant sites and archaeological areas.
