- Summary
- The Wasatch Mountain Range contains some of Utah's most scenic alpine terrain. Stretching some 160 miles from the Utah-Idaho border, south through central Utah, the rugged mountain tops and coexisting canyons create this truly diverse and wonderful ecological treasure. The snow-capped mountains provide over 60 percent of the Salt Lake City water supply. The mountain ranges draw increasing numbers of tourists, boosting the economy, as visitors and residents alike enjoy skiing, hiking, mountain climbing and camping. A hike into the backcountry may reward one with sightings of deer, moose, fox or coyote. This campaign seeks to expand the existing Twin Peaks, Mt. Olympus, and Lone Peak areas, and create a new Mt. Aire wilderness area to collectively protect approximately 28,000 acres of municipal watershed lands in the range.
