This past week, wilderness advocates from across the country gathered for the sixth biennial Wilderness Mentoring Conference at the Rex Ranch in Amado, Arizona. Co-hosted by the Campaign for America's Wilderness and The Wilderness Society's Wilderness Support Center, the conference brings together experienced wilderness leaders and rising grassroots advocates to share ideas and experiences, learn about available resources, and discuss best practices. Topics covered this year included campaign strategy, grassroots outreach, lobbying, new media and communication strategy, and job resiliency. The 60 participants made the most of Southern Arizona in the springtime, hiking through the Mount Wrightson Wilderness just a few miles north of the proposed Tumacacori Highlands wilderness area.
