Montana Wilderness Advocates Hear from Campaign Staff
May 7th, 2009Campaign for America's Wilderness Policy Director Doug Scott and Field Director Carrie Sandstedt participated in workshops and panel discussions last week at the 51st annual convention of the Montana Wilderness Association, in Missoula.
Carrie was joined by MWA Wilderness Campaign Director, Gabe Furshong, for a look at the fundamentals of organizing and what makes a campaign successful, with special focus on the Blackfoot Clearwater Landscape Stewardship Project in Montana.

Four months of intense negotiations later, they were set to release their draft and continue the hard work of compromise with others who had a stake in forest planning.
New Bill Protects NM Wilderness
April 23rd, 2009Senator Jeff Bingaman, Chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, today introduced the "El Rio Grande Del Norte National Conservation Area Establishment Act," to conserve and protect some 235,000 acres northwest of Taos, New Mexico, as a conservation area, including more than 21,000 acres of designated wilderness.

A Hero’s Work Pays Off in Southern California
April 10th, 2009Pam Nelson is being honored this month for her years of work to protect California's Beauty Mountain, a stunning haven of wilderness just south of Palm Springs. The Riverside County portion of Beauty Mountain was recently designated wilderness as part of the California Desert and Mountain Heritage Act, included in the omnibus lands bill signed by the President last month.
Wilderness Advocates Meet in Arizona
April 7th, 2009This past week, wilderness advocates from across the country gathered for the sixth biennial Wilderness Mentoring Conference at the Rex Ranch in Amado, Arizona. Co-hosted by the Campaign for America's Wilderness and The Wilderness Society's Wilderness Support Center, the conference brings together experienced wilderness leaders and rising grassroots advocates to share ideas and experiences, learn about available resources, and discuss best practices. Topics covered this year included campaign strategy, grassroots outreach, lobbying, new media and communication strategy, and job resiliency.
